What did you give up too soon?

Sometimes a second chance isn't about getting something back. It's about finally permitting yourself to choose it. (August 16th 2026)

It's funny how some things just get in your face and grab you by the collar, and suddenly you're forced to sit with them and make sense of the lot, whether you like it or not...

I've been thinking about second chances.

When I was growing up, there was this idea floating around that certain things were "for boys" and certain things were "for girls".

I don't know why, but I always hated these sorts of umbrella decisions. Perhaps it's the rebel in me, but I spent a good part of my younger years doing the exact opposite.

So, when all the kids my age went off to find a job somewhere in the community where we lived, I chose the "male" job on the farm and spent many happy days driving my tractor.

My absolute favourite was a Massey Ferguson 165, for those of you in the know...

When it was time to choose an instrument, I chose the drums.

And I loved them.
I loved driving my tractor.
I loved playing the drums.

And, if I'm completely honest, I also loved seeing people's faces when they realised they couldn't put me in a box to match their own limiting beliefs and dysfunctional ideas about what girls were supposed to do.

If a man could do it, I could do it too. (Although, to be fair, if it involved reversing a tractor with a four-wheel trailer attached, I would call my brother!)

A few years after moving to the UK, I remembered my drums, so I bought myself a beautiful kit and started playing again.

It was a strange and wonderful thing to do at that particular point in my life, when I was asking myself some pretty big questions and trying to work out where I was heading.

And then, as these things do, life happened.
The drums eventually disappeared.
Years passed.

Until recently, when my daughter, after months of nagging, mind, finally started drum lessons.

And let me tell you...

She is a natural.

The ease with which she's picked it up has been such a joy to watch. And yes, there has been more than a little proud-mum moment when her teacher told her that no one had ever played a particular song so well, so quickly.

But watching her has made me think about something else.

How many things do we put down in life?

Things we loved.
Things that made us feel alive.
Things that perhaps made us feel more like ourselves.
And then one day we realise we haven't done them for years.

Not because we stopped loving them.

We just got busy.
Or practical.
Or responsible.
Or we decided there wasn't time.
Or perhaps we quietly convinced ourselves that those things belonged to another version of us.

And I wonder...

What if they don't?

What if that part of you is still there?
What if you don't need to go back and become who you were?
What if you simply need to permit yourself to bring a little of that person forward with you?

Maybe your second chance isn't about the drums.

Maybe it's painting.
Dancing.
Travelling.
Writing.
Starting something you've been thinking about for years.
Leaving something that no longer fits.
Or simply making a different choice about how you want to spend your days.

Because perhaps a second chance isn't really about getting another opportunity.

Perhaps it's about finally taking the opportunity that has been sitting there all along.

So I'm curious...

What did you love before life got so busy?

And what would happen if you permitted yourself to have another go?

With love,
einav

Dottie's Corner

This was one of my top 5 favourite toys... I say was, because last week I accidentally chewed it so enthusiastically that I broke my tooth!
This is me, all drugged up after my tooth removal surgery. I got stitches, not allowed to eat anything hard, and that toy, together with a full bag of other favourites, has been tucked away.

I must say though, I am already doing better, and my post-procedure check-up got the thumbs up.

The woman of the house said she's never seen such an expensive tooth, so I'm on my best behaviour right now.....

I work extensively with people to help them transform their lives from fears, limitations and compromises, to harmony, alignment and joy, or in other words, helping people find natural healing to mind, body and soul.
