Emotions, inspirations and everything in between

Emotions, inspirations and everything in between

Why does the past have such a strong-hold on our present lives? What can we do to release past traumas? Some ideas, here! (Jan, 18th 2026)

'Why can't I just let this go?', a question often followed by the statement 'my life would be so much easier without constantly bringing this up...' These come up very often in conversations I have with people, because like it or not, we have a sponge-like mechanism that easily traps, and more effortly releases!

We all have traumas, some big, some small, some old, some recent, some have been blocked, some are keeping us awake at night. But the reason they don't just leave is two-fold (at least 2 that are relevant to what we are here to talk about today):

First, physically, because trauma actually changes and rewires our brains.
Second, spiritually, because every event we go through has a lesson to teach us. When we learn the lessons, the emotions also leave, and the event is just added to the pile of things-that-no-longer-matter.

So what do the experts say?
(all summaries are paraphrased).

Bessel van der Kolk wrote the book 'The body keeps the score' and explained to millions of us, how trauma rewires our brain and bodies, and how the presence of which is responsible for many symptoms we feel in our everyday lives - anything starting from stress, emotional numbness and more. According to him, trauma can't just be shown the way out, but rather, techniques such as EMDR, brain-reprocessing etc are the only way.

Dr Bruce Perry and Oprah Whimpery wrote the book 'What happened to you', and taught millions of us that when trauma is present in our bodies, external triggers can cause us to be instantly transferred back to the moment in which the trauma first happened. This instant transfer is done courtesy of our emotional brain, and only once this one has calmed down, the rational brain has a chance to come in, reminding us that we are no longer in that trauma. According to them, in order to allow your rational brain to snap back into operation faster, you need to teach yourself that you are safe. To revisit some of your past events (not to relive or re-enact them, though!) and slowly show all aspects of your brain that this was then and now is now, where you have more tools and ways of dealing with the past.

Dr Bradley Nelson, inventor of the Emotion Code and the Body Code, and creator of the Belief Code, tells us that when we go through emotional events or trauma that we are unable to process, these become trapped in our bodies, and cause physical, mental, emotional and spiritual illness. According to him, and of course, these are the healing modalities I use with my clients every day. You can release trapped emotions and trauma from your body, and once these are out, they never ever return.

I use the Emotion Code, Body Code and Belief Code on a daily basis, and I am constantly in awe of how the subconscious mind knows exactly what needs to be identified and released in order to release the blocked energy and help us feel better, often in ways we didn't even realise were possible.

Sometimes, I should add, the trauma and blocked energy are deeper than we realise, and the change in how we feel is either less obvious to notice. What is certain, though, is that clearing always takes place in ways directed by the subconscious mind.

I am not plugging the work of the CODES, but if you are curious, then feel free to reach out. What I am trying to do is bring more awareness to why you are finding it challenging to simply let something go, or that you constantly feel the past is controlling your everyday life.

If we want to create a life for ourselves that is guided, yet not controlled by our past traumas, we have to find a way to clear our cells of all their stored trauma and stress. It means we need to, other than release the trauma, make sure we process our emotions in a timely manner, that we find ways to reduce stress in our lives, and that we help create a safe space for our inner children to come out and play.

Last week, I shared with you how you can process your emotions instead of trapping them (process meaning - acknowledging and releasing. Trapping meaning - ignoring and shoving emotions to a hidden corner of the 2nd dimension!).

Today, I am sharing the same image from last week and a couple more, because they came up and I felt they were helpful in making the points I was talking about today. Hope you find them helpful!

Chakras are 7 energy centres swirling around in our bodies. The aim is to have our chakras both open and aligned, so we can feel balance, harmony and alignment. But what happens when the chakras are blocked?
This image so brilliantly illustrates both the benefits of a balanced chakra and also how and what gets them blocked. Hope it helps :)

DEMENTIA DENIED: One Woman's True Story of Surviving a Terminal Diagnosis & Reclaiming Her Life:
Diagnosed with terminal dementia. Bedbound. Hallucinating. Given just weeks to live. Everyone believed Ginger Smith’s story was over. They were wrong.

At 83, after years of trauma, polypharmacy, and steady cognitive decline, Ginger began to reawaken...slowly, piece by piece. Now 88 and living independently, she’s sharing her astonishing journey from near-death to clarity in a memoir that challenges everything we think we know about dementia, diagnosis, and decline.

The mainstream medical view still holds that there is no cure for dementia—and for many people, that remains tragically true. But that’s exactly why Ginger’s story felt so urgent to share. It isn’t presented as a miracle or a guaranteed path. It’s one woman’s extraordinary lived experience: reversing her symptoms and reclaiming her independence after being on death’s door.

Dementia Denied is more than a memoir. It’s a challenge. A blueprint. A quiet rebellion against the idea that decline is our only option.

Written by Ginger Smith—a retired speech-language pathologist who worked alongside neurology professionals at Stanford University Medical Hospital and trained physicians at both Stanford & UCSF—this book blends her personal experience with a researcher’s lens. What began as a quiet, personal reckoning evolved into years of inquiry into the hidden factors that may mimic or amplify dementia symptoms: trauma, nervous system dysregulation, drug interactions, inflammation, and more.

Inside, you’ll find:
A rare, firsthand account of what cognitive loss—and return—actually feels like
Insights into how unresolved trauma, polypharmacy, and the body’s survival mechanisms may play a larger role in cognitive decline than we’ve realized
Unfiltered, true stories of grief, trauma, strength, and even celebrity encounters that shaped Ginger’s resilience
A sobering look at the flaws in our elder care system—and how to advocate through them
All the clues to what led to her dramatic turnaround
A call to rethink what is possible for those diagnosed with cognitive decline

Dottie's Corner

It's half way through January and I know that many of you people will find it hard to focus. You make promises for a better future, you realise you don't really feel like doing them, you're up, you're down, you're hot, you're cold... My advice is... go back to simple... if you're struggling, remember that in the bigger scheme of things, nothing really matters... Start again. Start small. Tell no one. Find the energy and just put one foot in front of the other. Simple stuff.
I am sending you a picture of me, doing the simple stuff. My tennis ball, my HUUMAN, my lovely warm bed...

I work extensively with people to help them transform their lives from fears, limitations and compromises, to harmony, alignment and joy, or in other words, helping people find natural healing to mind, body and soul.
