Where the wild things are

Thoughts about purpose and finding the meaning of life

It was the Mongolian New Year recently and we were invited to my sister-in-law's for a celebration dinner. One of the other guests brought her cat with her, to the delight of the children who were playing around. At some point, a big commotion erupted. The cat disappeared and was nowhere to be found!

Now, you must understand that the flat was not all that big, and the mystery was palpable! The children were thrilled at this live version of 'treasure hunt' when all of a sudden, I heard one of the little girls pip - maybe it is hidden in plain sight!!!
I smiled but noted that no one else was privy to her words, and of course, it made me think!

What else is hidden in plain sight in our own lives that everyone else can see, but we don't? And especially when it comes to conversations about 'purpose' and finding the 'thing' we were sent here to do (or be).

A few years ago, I had a client, who, ahead of working together, created a sort of questionnaire and asked her group of best friends for deep, honest feedback on how they saw her, what they thought she should work on and what are the positive traits and gifts she brought into her life and those of others.

This was such a brilliant thing to do because her friends gave her the most incredible gift of honesty and kindness and she was able to see patterns she wasn't aware of before.

One fairly big problem people often face when they think about their purpose and 'meaning of life' is that they default into the 'all or nothing' mindset. They imagine that if they figured they wanted to run a hot air balloon business, offering trips above the Sahara, they should have it all worked out and fully successful by this time tomorrow morning.

But I am here to remind you that nothing worth having is instant (ok, debatable statement, but...). If this is your purpose, surely you recognise this will be a journey you tweak, add, change, amend, revisit, explore, grow, etc... There may be times when you want to through in the towels, and other times you feel on top of the world, but the thing is to get started with following what your heart already tells you, and keep on buying into the feelings of expansion, possibilities and flow, rather than fears, limitations and anything 'realistic, logical or practical'.

Know what I mean? The answers your seek are not ALREADY in your conscious awareness because this bucket is already filled with negativity. Instead, I am inviting you to reach deep down into your heart and inner knowing and trust and be guided to that thing that is very literally hidden in plain sight.

(also - stop blocking everything by saying 'yes but I don't know...'. This is exactly it! I am not asking you to KNOW, I am asking you to TRUST. See the difference?
