What's the difference between reflections and mental activity? Thinking uses the same input/output we always do. Reflections aim to bring change...
Scrolling through my Instagram the other day, brought up a variation of the question in your title - Would you ask yourself this question... Would you ask yourself - what are some incredibly stupid things I currently do in my life that stop me from getting the results I want... Ouch, right? So I had to give this a try...
One thing that immediately came up, was, of course - scrolling through Instagram...
But then I did sit down and reflect on just 3 aspects of life, those I knew my own clients struggle with very often, too...
- heath
- life-work balance
- career
Now that I invited myself to have this open and honest conversation with myself, I could immediately recognise some 'stupid' actions that I carry out, and as this has been quite helpful, I want to share with you these easy steps you can take for yourself too!
1. Decide the topic to explore
2. Park your ego
3. Write down everything you do right now that you don't like. Things I can think of might be:
* I eat a lot of processed food
* I don't eat enough fruit and vegetables
* I snack well into the night
* I always wait for when I am hungry to start thinking about what I can eat (this one is definitely mine!)
Now you start a new list, this time, of everything you want instead!
For example:
- Only 20% of my food comes from processed foods
- I eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables each day
- I don't eat anything past 6pm
- I plan/make my meals in advance and always know what I eat each meal
See how simple this can be? Now you may have your list and think - PFFF if only it could be this easy!
And to that, I'd say - if this is too overwhelming, start with the one item that bothers you most, or the one that when you change, will bring you the most benefits /satisfaction / etc
Will you try this? I bet you find some stuff that was pretty automatic until now, and now that you think about it, you don't have to keep on doing it... Right?
